Edward Troye

(Swiss/American, 1808-1874)

Born in Switzerland of French parents, Troye was of elegant, artistic stock. Trained in art in England, he arrived in America in 1831 after a short stint in the West Indies. In short order this artist became the finest portrait painter of Thoroughbred horses this country has known, with commissions from all the sporting men of his day. He lived much of his life in Midway, Kentucky and died just down the road in Georgetown.
