John Sanderson Wells

(British, 1872-1955)

An English artist who specialized in sporting and animal painting, Wells was educated at the Slade School of Art in London and the Academie Julian in Paris. He was a regular contributor to the Royal Academy and exhibited in London from 1895 to 1904. He painted true to nature, with his compositions being both technical and having a feeling of graceful movement. Most of his works were private commissions mainly of hunting subjects.
