Martin Frank Stainforth
(British, )Receiving training as an engraver and illustrator in England, Stainforth moved to Australia in his late 40s to become one of the country’s leading horse painters. He made detailed studies of horses and always made numerous sketches to perfect a picture before painting. He hoped to move away from the Herring portraiture of style, and his innovations led to a new style, developed further in England, which created a likeness both detailed and natural.
