The festival's purse money is second only to that of the Grand National. Held over four days, it showcases some of the best British- and Irish-trained jump horses. Highlights include the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, and Stayers' Hurdle. The meet originated in 1860 when it was known as the Grand National Hunt Meeting.
