Illustrator of birds and authority on falconry, Lodge is known on both sides of the Atlantic as one of the finest bird-artists. His knowledge and experience with birds of prey were said to make him unrivaled in painting the creatures. He was said to not only be an artist, but a naturalist; skilled in making the birds come alive on the canvas.
